Philanthropic and Scholarship Activities

 While Heart of Ohio Tole, Incorporated (warmly referred to as HOOT), is largely known for being an eclectic group of artists with varying levels of skill, we’re much more than that.  HOOT is largely involved in philanthropic endeavors in Columbus and surrounding communities.   Our involvement in the community and being a “good neighbor” is important to us not only as a group but as individuals.  Here’s a sampling of our activities:

Heart of Ohio Tole makes substantial donations to the Decorative Arts Collection for acquisitions, restoration, conservation and proper museum quality display of this vast collection of decorative art work.

We purchase Society of Decorative Painters (SDP) books for donation to public libraries.

Heart of Ohio Tole commissioned pieces of art from well-known decorative artists for donation to the SDP Painting for Hope Charity Auctions that have benefited the Pediatric Aids Foundation and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Several of our members designed and painted the 9’ x 22 ‘, Rainforest and African Plains murals at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

We have also participated in the “Adopt-an-Animal” project at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

Each year, HOOT members raise and donate hundreds of dollars in art supplies for use in children’s programs in homeless shelters throughout the Columbus area.

HOOT members painted and donated caps and t-shirts to patients at Children’s Hospital.

Our memory box program provides hand-painted boxes to area hospitals for parents who’ve lost their “little angels”.

We award scholarships yearly for Ohio art teachers to use at our annual convention.

Heart of Ohio Tole has provided scholarships for CCAD (Columbus College of Art and Design) college students.

In addition to providing scholarships to CCAD college students, HOOT has provided scholarships so that elementary-age children may participate in the college’s Saturday Morning art program.

HOOT organizes, judges, and sponsors the cash prize awards and the Best of Show awards in the Tole and Decorative Painting category at the Ohio State Fair.

Heart of Ohio Tole supported Art from the Heart fundraising events that benefited the James Cancer Hospital, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit by painting up items to sell.

 

These are just a few of the activities that we are involved in because as needs arise in our community (and oftentimes outside of the local area), HOOT has and continues to “step up to the plate” and get involved in becoming part of the solution.  Yes, we paint – but painting isn’t all we do.
